Privacy policy

This site is a directory of public diaspora* pods. We collect as little data as possible. Here is what still comes up and what we do with it.

Controller

Web server access logs

Whenever you visit, our web server (nginx) automatically records your IP address, date and time, the requested address, the status code, the amount of data sent, the referring page and the browser identification. This is technically necessary to deliver the site, to find errors and to fend off attacks (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, legitimate interest in secure operation).

The logs are deleted after 14 days. We do not analyse them, combine them with other data or pass them on.

Hosting: Hosteurope

No cookies, no tracking

We set no cookies and store nothing on your device. We embed no external services, fonts, maps or advertising; all fonts are served from our own server. We pick the language from your browser settings or from the ?lang= parameter in the address. Nothing is stored for this.

Suggesting pods

You can suggest the host name of a pod through the form. Only that host name is stored, with no link to you. To stop mass abuse of the form, we count suggestions per IP address. This count lives only in memory and expires after a short time; it is never written to disk. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (protection against abuse).

Pod data

For the list we query publicly reachable servers (Nodeinfo): software version, user numbers, whether they accept new members, and whether and how fast the server answers. This is technical information about servers, not about individual people. If you run a pod and want it removed from the list, please write to us.

Links to other sites

Links to pods and to their sign-up pages lead to other servers. Their own privacy notices apply there. We have no influence on them.

Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and objection (Art. 21). Please contact the controller named above. Because we delete access logs after 14 days and do not link them to people, we can only answer requests if you tell us your IP address and the time period.

You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for us is the Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen, Kavalleriestraße 2–4, 40213 Düsseldorf, Germany, www.ldi.nrw.de.
